Reincarnated as a speakeasy, gambling house and hot spot for late night carousing, the Colony Palms Hotel, then named the “Colonial House,” had a
storied beginning. Mobster Al Wertheimer, a notorious member of the Purple Gang, established the Colonial House in 1936. Built in Palm Spring’s fabled “Movie Colony district, the hotel is a historic, self-contained Oasis in the desert featuring a distinctive Spanish Colonial style with Art Deco influences. Bull Stockwell Allen worked closely with Palisades Hospitality to restore the hotel’s luster, including new meeting rooms and improvements to the hotel’s lobby, guest rooms, spa and signature restaurant.
